Doğan Akhanlı, born 1957 in Turkey, wrote several novels and a theatre play. Die Tage ohne Vater (dt. 2016) und Madonnas letzter Traum (türk. 2005) were elected as the most important literary publications in Turkey. In 2013 he received the Pfarrer-Georg-Fritze Preis in Cologne, as well as the European Tolerance Price in Austria in 2018.
In 1991 he had to flee from Turkey and came to Germany as a political refugee. He lives in Cologne since 1992. His main topic is the examination of 20th century genoicides. Due to his political bearing he was imprisoned in Turkey several times. Lastly he was arrested in Spain because of a Turkish warrant, after which he wrote the book Verhaftung in Granada.
