Bernard Gotfryd, photographer and storyteller, born Radom, Poland in 1924, died in 2016 in New York. As a youth he operated as a courier for the Polish resistance against the German occupation. He was imprisoned in several concentration camps until liberation in May 1945. In 1947 he migrated to the USA. He worked for more than 30 years as a photo-journalist for the US magazine Newsweek. His rich photographic life’s work is archived with the renowned New York Historical Society.
