Maïssa Bey

Maïssa Bey, whose real name is Samia Benameur, was born near Algier in 1950. She studied Romance philology and worked as a pedagogue. In the context of the bloody conflicts that subdued her country during the so-called black decade (1992–2002), she began to write under the name of her grandmother. Maïssa Bey, who calls herself „Arabian by birth, culture and language. And Muslim. Deeply shaped by Muslim culture and tradition”, chooses literature as her form of expression to be more than a silent, passive witness of violent and challenging contemporary history

Thus far released by Sujet Verlag: Madame Lafrance (2017)
