Wolfgang Schlott was born in Suhl/Thüringen in 1941. After studying southern Slavic studies, sociology, art history, and Latin he received his doctorate with a dissertation on Ossip Mandelstams’ lyric from the University of Konstant in 1979. He then worked on research projects in Siegen and Bochum. Since 1984 he works for the research unit “Eastern Europe“ at the University of Bremen. In 1992 he worked on a postdoctoral project about Polish prose after 1945. Furthermore, Schlott is associate professor for new Slavic culture- and literature history since 2002.
