Garous Abdolmalekian
Biography
Garous Abdolmalekian was born in Tehran in 1980, where he lives and currently works as Editor-in-Chief for Poetry at Cheshmeh Publishing House and as Editor-in-Chief of the 'Youth Poetry Office' in Iran. He published his first volume of poetry at the age of 23 and received the Karnameh Prize for Poetry Book of the Year for it. Other poetry collections and awards soon followed, not only in Iran but also in France. He is now one of the most important young poets on the current poetry scene and literary voices in Iran. He received the Roddi Literature Prize in Italy in 2023.
His poems have been translated into Arabic, German, English, French, Kurdish and Spanish. Although his verses are written in a language close to everyday life, they are culturally critical. He succeeds in creating clear, poetic images that make you think.
He has written eight volumes of Persian poetry in total, the last of which was published in 2019.
