A country is more than the news that is sent and the prejudices that are spread. Therefore, it is time to look for another approach. We think: The art and literature of the compatriots should speak! Sujet Verlag would like to build bridges between the German way of life and distant, unknown Iran.
For this reason, we organized a series of events that took place in Bremen and Oldenburg in September 2018. The varied program consisted of book readings, film screenings, a scenic reading and enriching conversations! Iran should be presented in a new way. We have tried to make a contribution to intercultural dialogue and to promote understanding for foreign cultures.

4. September
Opening event: Reading with Mitra Gaast from their new work "Because you will remember - return to Tehran" in the Franz Leuwer bookshop
On Tuesday 4th September we had a wonderful evening at the Leuwer bookshop with Mitra Gaast reading us from her latest novel Because you will remember! We would like to thank Angelika Plückebaum from the Franz Leuwer bookstore, Jens Laloire as moderator and Rainer Schmidt from the cultural authorities for the great help!

Scenic reading with Pedro Kadivar from his new work "Little Book of Migrations" in the Schwankhalle (Bremen)
On September 6th, as part of the Iranian Evenings, we were able to watch a stirring and special reading by Pedro Kadivar from his book "Little Book of Migrations". The audience could watch Kadivar enthusiastically as he read from his book and a great atmosphere was created with musical and theatrical accompaniment.
We are very happy that we had the opportunity to work together with Pedro Kadivar and above all with the Schwankhalle, the team from Sehnsuchteuropa / steptext dance project with Kerstin Witges and the Shakespeare Company. We would like to thank all helpers!

reading with Mahmood Falaki from his new work "Deadly Strangers" in the Ev. Parish of Stuhr
On September 13th, as part of the Iranian Evenings, we were able to listen to an interesting book reading by Mahmood Falaki. In the Ev. Church community Stuhr found many visitors who listened to Mahmood Falaki reading from his novel "Deadly Strangers" and were able to have some discussions afterwards.

Bilingual poetry matinée: readings in the Villa Ichon (Bremen)

On Sunday September 14th we hosted a wonderful morning where Pegah Ahmadi, Inge Buck, Kurt Scharf and Schirin Nowrousian delighted the audience with individual readings!
This was followed by a round of talks with very stimulating discussions.
We would like to thank all participants for taking part in this event, especially Schirin Nowrousian, who moderated the poetry matinée. Furthermore, we would like to thank Villa Ichon for the cooperation and the great cooperation!

reading with Fariba Vafi from their new work "The Dream of Tibet" in der Villa Sponte (Bremen)
On September 17th and 18th we were able to welcome Iranian Fariba Vafi, the LiBeratur prize winner, in Oldenburg and Bremen. She has held two readings during the Iranian Evenings reading from her brand new novel The Dream of Tibet. The audience was particularly impressed by the bilingualism of the readings - we would like to thank Jutta Himmelreich for the great translation and collaboration!
Furthermore, we would like to thank the teams at Villa Ichon and Villa Sponte for the great support and the opportunity to hold our events in such beautiful premises. Special thanks also go to the moderators of the two evenings: Claudia Wronna and Dr. Silke Behl!
