Magdaléna Stárková

Biography

Magdaléna Stárková was born in Ostrava, grew up in Olomouc and has lived as an author and translator in Bremen in northern Germany since 2014. She is a graduate of Polish and English philology and Jewish studies at the Palacký University in Olomouc and Jewish Studies at the Central European University in Budapest. Magdaléna Farnesi, who writes under her maiden name Magdaléna Stárková, has won first prizes at the 2009 Poetry on the Tracks literary competition and at the Olomouc Poetry Festival.
She works as a literary translator for PLAV, the monthly magazine for world literature, among others.

Poems are wanderers, as are their writers. Magdaléna Stárková's poems were created in between countries, places and languages. Home here and there and the quiet processes of getting to know each other, alienation and reconciliation are themes in the author's lyrical works.
