memory dogs

The eponymous memory dogs carry memories into memory and thus back into the present. Memories steeped in war, pain and aching love are reanimated by the metaphorical four-legged friends, making them a constant companion in the future. Just as the experiences can no longer be ascribed to any time, the tenses used become diffuse. In his book of poems, Ramy Al-Asheq wanders from drastic images of war to past love affairs.

"The perspectives crunch and the images that Ramy Al-Asheq finds allow the scandal of the simultaneity of war and peace to be experienced.” (Monika Rink)

The poems were translated into German by Lilian Pithan
