Nassir Djafari, born in Iran in 1952, has lived in Germany since he was five. He studied economics in Frankfurt and has held various positions in German and international development cooperation. Djafari has written numerous specialist articles and book contributions on the economic and political challenges in developing and emerging countries. One week, one life was his first novel. Most recently published The great cousin.

Abbé, 62 years old, a successful Frankfurt businessman and cosmopolitan, sees himself as German. His Iranian roots are buried. One day, when a distant relative who had just arrived from Iran visits him, his life is thrown into disarray. The visitor is inscrutable, entangled in contradictions and stumbles from one emergency to the next. Soon Abbe's life only revolves around his relative's problems.
