The EKZ has reviewed "Sons of Love" by Ghazi Rabihavi:
The young Djamil lives in Iran at the time of the Islamic revolution. Even as a child he lets
make himself up like a bride by his sisters and nieces until he by his father
caught and beaten with a wet cane. Djamil tells this story
of him and his beloved Nadji, both of whom grow up in a society that
same-sex love despised and persecuted in a country where homosexuals
will. The two lovers flee from the confines of their southern Iranian village early on
first in a larger city and then even abroad, where they pose as illegal immigrants
have to hide. On their escape Djamil and Nadji also meet other people,
threatened by the pre-revolutionary conditions after the fall of the Shah
feel. The Iranian author, who himself was in the dreaded Evin prison for political
prisoner and now lives in exile tells the startling story
of a homosexual couple oppressed by a brutally patriarchal regime
will. Literally sophisticated and up-to-date again.- Rouven Hans
