In Bremen, more than 1,500 people fell victim to National Socialist tyranny; the number of people deported, persecuted or taken into “protective custody” is many times higher. The artist Gunter Demnig commemorates the victims of National Socialism by setting stumbling blocks – commemorative plaques made of brass – in the pavement in front of their last, mostly self-chosen, place of residence. Between 2004 and 2020, more than 700 stumbling blocks were laid in Bremen. An extensive biographical search for traces preceded the minimal biographical data on the stumbling blocks. The Initiativkreis Stolpersteine Bremen publishes all biographies in several volumes, sorted by city and district. The books build on each other in that, in addition to the local focus, they also contain different basic depictions of Bremen during the Nazi era.

The Sujet-Verlag have already been published Band 1: Region North (Burglesum / Vegesack / Blumenthal / Ritterhude), Band 2: Mitte (old town / station suburb), Band 3: Easter Gate / Eastern Suburb, Band 4: Schwachhausen / Horn-Lehe and Band 5: Findoff / Walle / Gröpelingen. Of the Band 6: Neustadt contains, in addition to the biographical outlines, articles on the history of the district (traces of the Nazi era, Warnkengang, Isenbergheim, product dealers), articles on the November pogrom of 1938 in Bremen and the legal prosecution of the perpetrators of this pogrom, as well as an article on the history and persecution of the Bremen witnesses Jehovah's under Nazism.

A city map with entry of the stumbling blocks (positions and numbering) is included and enables a personal search for clues.
