European Literature Festival Cologne Kalk with Suleman Taufiq

On Saturday September 2nd Suleman Taufiq at the European Literature Festival Cologne Kalk. A short film about the person Suleman Taufiq and his literature will be shown. Suleman Taufiq will also present his texts. Suleman reads in German and Arabic. The moderation takes over Jonas Linnebank. Reading and speaking take place in Arabic and German.

Suleman Taufiq is a German-Syrian author and is known as a poet, storyteller, music critic, publicist, editor and translator of Arabic literature and lives in Aachen.
Born in Beirut in 1953 to a Syrian family, Taufiq spent his childhood in Damascus in order to study philosophy and comparative literature in Germany in 1971 after graduating from high school.
His first volume of poetry in German was published in 1978. In addition to poems, novels, short stories and essays, he writes stories for children and translates Arabic works into German and numerous German poets into Arabic. He has also worked as an author for television and radio, e.g. for WDR, hr, SWR and DLR.
Suleman Taufiq received the Literature Prize of the City of Aachen in 1983 and has received two scholarships from the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Education. In 2015 he was nominated for the European CIVIS Radio Prize, and he also received the Media Prize of the Professional Association of Pediatricians in the radio category.
