Fariba Vafi : "To the Rain" bilingual reading Farsi/German

On Monday, February 6th, a bilingual reading of Fariba Vafi In the rain in Farsi/German followed by an audience discussion. Lotfali Semino, Chairman of the Iranian Cultural Association Dresden, will moderate the discussion and then translate the discussion with the author.

With her first novel Parande-ye-man (2002, Ger. Kellervogel, 2013) she created a novelty in modern Iranian authorship: balancing between a language-aesthetically reduced narrative of a housewife and mother who fights for a self-determined life, she negotiates social taboos such as estranged mother-child relationships, unfulfilled marriages or fleeing into exile. She does this quietly, anticipating the censor. Although all of her novels and short story collections were subject to censorship, they were ultimately able to find their way to their readers. Fariba Vafi's aim is to create female figures that would otherwise have little place in post-revolutionary literature, to make voices audible that would otherwise remain silent. […] Her stories are microcosms; in her almost casual poetics, she captures emotions and structures that are almost always political. She often analyzes structures that destroy interpersonal relationships.>I try to grasp their essence and criticize them.
