Violence, terror, war - in many places, societies and cultures are currently exhausted and destroyed. Completely different, the literary encounter between the great Persian poet Hafis, donated for centuries with his Diwan (14th century) and Goethe, which gains shape and expression in the poetry of his western-Eastern Divan (1819/1827). In the meantime there has also been a Hafis Goethe monument in Weimar that is dedicated to the relationship and will be the starting point for the lecture. The focus of the considerations is the strange encounter of the eastern and western poet and questions about their impulses, also with a view to our present.
