Production of “Madonna’s Last Dream”
2. November a 19:00 - 22:00
10€ – 48€Madonna's Last Dream
Von Doğan Akhanlı
The Turkish writer Doğan Akhanlı does not want to believe that the protagonist of the national novel The Madonna in the Fur Coat died of natural causes in Berlin in 1938. His investigations reveal a historical panorama of guilt and responsibility, ranging from emigrant life in pre-war Berlin to the sinking of the refugee ship Struma off the Turkish coast in 1942 to the current culture of remembrance of the Holocaust. This is how voices appear that were never heard before. A fantastic journey through time and space that mixes detective stories, relationship dramas and road movies.
Doğan Akhanlı most recently became known through his arrest in Granada, the report of his arrest ordered by the Erdoğan regime while on holiday in Spain and his subsequent release thanks to EU mediation. His epic Madonna's Last Dream describes the darkest chapter in German history from an unusual perspective. Doğan Akhanlı specifically chose the theater in the construction tower for his dramatization - before his unexpected death in October 2021, he was able to attend the rehearsals and is present as a video projection within the production.
“As a pair, Marc Fischer and Sibel Polat embody the web of historical and contemporary voices, change roles, tones and perspectives, joke with the audience and make the evening a real theater experience through their presence.” (Excerpt from Kurt Hackenberg’s laudation Prize from jury member Dr. Sandra Nuy)
