When a German native speaker has an Arabic name, it raises legitimate questions in everyday life. If someone like Amir Shaheen is also a writer and publishes books, well, then it makes sense to want to know whether his texts will be translated – into German!
Amir Shaheen describes in a pointed and witty manner what his name alone can trigger among his “bio-German” fellow human beings in this country. He describes his experiences in an entertaining and extremely amusing way. At the same time, it invites you to take a critical look at widespread pigeonholing and supposed self-evident things, to examine expectations and prejudices, to become aware of what is often only well-intentioned and also of the omnipresent scissors in your head...
Author Amir Shaheen, born in Lüdenscheid in 1966, studied German, English, theater, film and television studies. The trained publishing clerk works as an author, editor and PR editor and writes poetry, prose, satirical material and columns. He has been publishing literary texts since 1989 and has made a name for himself particularly as a poet. His poems appeared in numerous anthologies, magazines and on the radio and were included in “The Great Conrady – The Book of German Poems”
