Reading and conversation with Habib Tengour - "The Old Man from the Mountains"

05.16.2019 a 19:00 - 20:30

From 15th to 19th The 25th Heidelberg Literature Days will take place in May. On Thursday, May 16th, Habib Tengour will read from his novel “The Old Man from the Mountain” as part of the festival. The reading will be in both German and French. The reading will be moderated by Hans Thill and Regina Keil-Sagawe, the book's translator. We cordially invite everyone to this event!

He is considered “one of the most powerful and imaginative poetic voices of the postcolonial Francophone Maghreb” (Pierre Joris). In his books, Habib Tengour takes up topics in a visionary manner that only come into the media focus years later. In Old von Berge, which he wrote from 1977 to 1981, he traces religious totalitarianism, asks about the intellectual's responsibility towards war, corruption and ideological hardening, and the suitability of religion, science and politics as viable paths to "truth".
