Reading and discussion about the novel "Mahtab" by Nassir Djafari

The reading with Nassir Djafari will take place on January 26, 2023 at 7 p.m. at Café Mutz, Alt Niederursel 27, Frankfurt am Main, where the novel "Mahtab" will be presented.

About the book "Mahtab":

• The late 1960s in Frankfurt are politically and socially turbulent times in which old certainties begin to falter. Especially for Mahtob, who immigrated from Iran a decade earlier with her husband and three children. For a long time everything was right in her life. But now things are threatening to slip away: her daughter Azadeh is demonstrating against the Vietnam War, wearing a miniskirt and taking the pill; her husband Amin may be having an affair with his accountant and she herself has to fend off the advances of an admirer. Torn between her traditional moral concepts and the freedoms of modern western life, she has to assert herself and find her own way. Nassir Djafari also shows himself in his second novel as an accomplished and sensitive narrator who describes the development of his main character in a coherent and exciting way.

About the Author Nassir Djafari:

• Born in Iran in 1952, has lived in Germany since he was five. He studied economics in Frankfurt and has held various positions in German and international development cooperation. In 2020 his debut novel "One Week, One Life" was published by Sujet Verlag. Mahtab is his second novel.
