POETRY AS A SPACE OF ENCOUNTERS: Verses from Germany, Iran and Syria (Leipzig lets)

03.13.2020 a 21:00 - 22:30

We are looking forward to a multilingual reading of poetry from Iran, Syria and Germany with Ramy Al-Asheq, Schirin Nowrousian, Inge Buck and Suleman Taufiq.

We read from the poetry collections “Gedächtnishunde” by Ramy Al-Asheq, “Gläserne Fehde” by Schirin Nowrousian, “Nachtwind” by Inge Buck, “Strange World” by Suleman Taufiq, “Halt aus in der Nacht” edited by Kurt Scharf and “ Just before thirty, ...kiss me” by Widad Nabi.

We see poetry as a space for cultural encounters: finding common ground through literature, recognizing the beauty in poems, even if you don't always understand everything literally. Poetry is an expression of feelings, impressions and thoughts that is not tied to a language or culture and in which one can find oneself independently. Central to the works from which we read is the multilingualism and translation of the texts. What does it mean to live, write, or see and hear your own texts translated in two languages? How can multilingualism become a new form of expression and open up new perspectives?
