Theater premiere: Madonna's last dream - Theater im Bauturm

09.17.2021 a 19:00

The Cologne writer Doğan Akhanlı was the last to get through to a broader audience Arrest in Granada became known, the report of his arrest ordered by the Erdogan regime while on vacation in Spain and the subsequent release thanks to the mediation of the EU. His 2006 published epic Madonna's Last Dream is a fascinatingly multi-layered text that describes the darkest chapter of German history from an unusual perspective: conveyed via the character of the Turkish writer Sabahattin Ali and his relationship to the Jewish diseuse Maria Puder, Akhanlı provides an insight into the rise and establishment of the National Socialist regime in Berlin in the 1930s Years from the point of view of an emigrant. The virtuously narrated and interlaced novel traces a network of historical voices that have never been heard in this constellation before, and bundles storylines that range from the sinking of the unseaworthy refugee ship Struma off the Turkish coast in 1942 to the current situation of the writer, who tries to reconstruct the catastrophe six decades later.
