Inge Buck and Kurt Scharf in conversation about Iranian poetry and the art of translation, with musical accompaniment by Elshan Ghasimi
Kurt Scharf poses in this new release entitled Anthology of Modern Iranian Poetry. A selection of the most beautiful Persian poems of the 20th century, poetry from the years 1941 to 1979, an epoch that he himself describes as the golden age of Persian poetry.
The poems are enlivened by Scharf's sensitive translation in a splendor that gives German-speaking readers an authentic insight into the world of Persian poetry.
Kurt Scharf was deputy director of the Goethe-Institut in Tehran as well as director of the Goethe-Institut in Porto Alegre, Istanbul and Lisbon. He is also a founding member of the House of World Cultures and worked there as head of the literature, society and science department. He translates literature from Persian, Portuguese and Spanish.
The sensitive poems of the poet Inge Buck were translated into Persian by Madjid Mohit. On the occasion of the event, poetry from the works Unter dem Schnee and Nachtwind will be read in both languages – by Inge Buck in German and by Madjid Mohit in Persian. This creates a dialogue between the original language and the translation.
Inge Buck worked as an editor in the radio play department of Deutschlandfunk and as a cultural scientist at the Bremen University of Applied Sciences. In 2003 she received the Robert Geissendörfer Prize.
