On December 5th there was a bilingual event with Habib Tengour and Redouane Belakhdar at the Instiut francais Bremen. Tengour read in French from his book "The Old Man from the Mountains" and there was an exciting contribution on the relationship between literature and politics as well as on the current political situation in Algeria from Belakhdar.
Schirin Nowrousian moderated and read in German (the translation was published this year by Sujet Verlag). Wolfgang Barth interpreted.
Topics included the creation and inspiration for the book. Tengour reported that he has been very influenced by cinema since childhood and that his surrealistic writing style is also inspired by film cuts.
Belakhdar's contribution focused on several writers, including Heinrich and Thomas Mann, as well as Camus, prompting lively discussions. Finally, he reported on the protests in Algeria and emphasized how little media coverage the events there had here.
The evening took place in cooperation with the Institut français Bremen, Yedd e.V. and the Rosa Luxemburg Initiative.
Many thanks to everyone involved for the successful evening!
