Description
Gunther Gerlach lets us immerse ourselves in the world of sketches and preparatory drawings for his sculptures and installations. The book shows a wide variety of forms in brush and pencil drawings. His prose text "The Secret Place" opens a window into the sculptor's mental spaces and landscapes in a language rich in images.
"Before that grew from the white ashes of ideas,
the multitude of scattered
marked sheets of paper,
like the wings of landed birds,
ready for a handclapping at any moment
could rise
to a floating, ever-snapping form………”
– Gunther Gerlach
