That was the first reaction of the narrator, a supervisor at the city aquarium in West Berlin, when, after a long stay abroad (with the Meerfamilie), she ended up in the middle of the story in the fall of 1989, completely unprepared. Pictures from one's own life push: the sound of family quarrels in children's ears, National Socialist overtones, packages for the 'brothers and sisters who bear the fate of our separation', eventful student days, 'Go over there' whistles. And everything is reflected in the everyday life of aquarium fish.
