2nd Cologne Literature Night - freedom and possibilities of writing
18.09.2021
€10,40Events at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m
As part of the series of events 2nd Cologne Literature Night ask Simone Scharbert and our authors Jabbar Abdulladog Suleman Taufiq their latest books. They address the question of freedom and the possibilities of writing. Jabbar Abdullah's theme is directly experienced (un)freedom. In his debut “Raqqa am Rhein” he deals with his experiences in Syria under the authoritarian regime and in the war as well as his arrival in Cologne. “I don't live in two worlds, I am two worlds,” says Suleman Taufiq about himself, because he is at home in both the Arab and German worlds.
Most recently, his volume of poetry “strange worlds” and “Josef has a birthday” with short stories were published. In “du, alice” Simone Scharbert tells the story of Alice James, the little-known sister of her famous brothers Henry and William James, in a poetic and lyrical way. Alice James is considered an early icon of feminism who was able to create freedom for herself through her writing.
