Author reading with Mahmood Falaki “I’m a foreigner and that’s a good thing.”
Dr. Mahmood Falaki was born in northern Persia on the Caspian Sea. He studied chemistry and library science in Iran. Sentenced to three years in prison during the Shah's era for his political and literary activities, he finally had to leave the country in 1983 after the clerics took over. Since then he has lived in Germany. Here he studied German and Iranian studies at the University of Hamburg and received his doctorate on Goethe and Hafez. In his pointed short stories and snapshots, Mahmood Falaki humorously sketches encounters between people from different cultures. With an ironically distanced view of everyday events, he processes his own experiences as well as observations of interpersonal encounters, banalities and absurdities of everyday life.
