This evening, Suleman Taufiq will read from his two books: “Josef has a birthday” (story) and from the book of poems “I tame hope” and then discuss with the audience.
In his writing, Suleman Taufiq moves in both cultures, the German and the Arabic. On his literary forays we meet people who find themselves between two different cultures. His literature is a bridge between cultures - which cannot be so foreign to each other. In his texts he takes us into a wonderful foreign world, a world with all its transience, excess, changeability, imponderability, on a poetic journey between places, languages and times.
Taufiq uses literature for what she originally wants: to get to know the other, to experience their strangeness and fascination with pleasure. For him, foreign lands are a place of encounter and development. But the lyrics are also a kind of love declaration to the stranger, which becomes more and more familiar over time.
