How much does my book cost? VS Author’s Day
28.11.2024 at 18:30 - 21:30
FreeAssociation of German Writers Lower Saxony/Bremen in cooperation with the Bremer Literaturkontor
Keynote speech and panel discussion
"How much does my book cost?” – four actors from the German literary world will address this question in a panel discussion at the Bremen Press Club, moderated by Dr. Lore Kleinert.
(Aspiring) authors and anyone interested are warmly invited to find out about the current opportunities and conditions for publishing a book in 2024. The publishers and the author on the podium discuss various practices and visions for future interactions with one another.
Among others, the following questions should be answered:
- What is the state of the German-speaking book market?
- To what extent are publishers’ demands on authors acceptable and under what conditions can they be implemented?
- But to what extent are potential demands from authors (including professional associations) regarding the production costs of a book, contractual conditions, advertising and distribution for small publishers acceptable and under what conditions can they be implemented?
- What is a “pay publisher”, a “printing subsidy publisher”, etc.?
- To what extent does the genre of the manuscript play a role?
- What is the situation with self-publishing, etc.?
- Do you need an agency as an author? How do you find an agency?
