Reading with Amir Shaheen

"I'm not a foreigner, it's just my name"

That is the name of the work from which Amir Shaheen will read on Wednesday September 21, 2022 in the Brockmann library in Brühl. In this he takes a look at what happens when a German native speaker has an Arabic name. Witty and humorous, he describes his own experiences and challenges his readers to critically question themselves and their pigeonhole thinking.

Amir Shaheen, born in Lüdenscheid in 1966, studied German, English, theatre, film and television studies. The trained publishing clerk works as an author, editor and PR editor and writes poetry, prose, satirical material and columns. He has been publishing literary texts since 1989 and has made a name for himself in particular as a poet. His poems have appeared in numerous anthologies, magazines, and on the radio, and have been included in The Great Conrady - The Book of German Poems. Member of PEN Germany.
