"Where world literature is written on it, Western literature is in it.” Regardless of whether it’s reviews in the arts pages, university seminars, lists of the best of the ‘most important’ works or reading material in school lessons: the literary work of authors from Asia, Africa and Latin America is usually left out - out of ignorance and many other reasons. In his knowledgeable essay, Gerrit Wustmann shows not only what we are missing out on as a result, but also how one-sided reading distorts our view of the world.
Gerrit Wustmann, born in Cologne in 1982, is a freelance writer and journalist. He has published ten books to date and his poetry has been translated into numerous languages. He received several grants for his literary work, as well as the 2012 postpoetry.NRW poetry prize and the 2015 prize for young artists from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
