Journeys in Literature – 2nd evening in prose

The second prose evening, which takes place in the Bremen City Library, presents the award-winning novel "Weight of Regrets" which will be published by Sujet Verlag this fall. The novel by Khalil Sweileh, who for the first time from Suleman Taufiq translated into German, is a modern narrative about the everyday life of the people of Syria during the civil war.

Translator Suleman Taufiq will be present in person, while author Khalil Sweileh will be online from Damascus. The moderation and the subsequent discussion between author and translator will be led by Barbara Alms.

Khalil Sweileh is a Syrian journalist and writer. He was born in Al-Hasakah and studied literature at Damascus University. Since then he has worked for a number of cultural publications in various capacities. He is also a literary critic.

Suleman Taufiq is a German-Syrian author and is known as a poet, storyteller, music critic, publicist, editor and translator of Arabic literature. In 1983 he received the Literature Prize of the City of Aachen and has received two scholarships from the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Education. In 2015 he was nominated for the European CIVIS Radio Prize, and he also received the Media Prize of the Professional Association of Pediatricians in the radio category.
