Widad Nabi with "Shortly before thirty,...kiss me" as a guest in Cologne
007.5.2019 at 19:30 - 21:00
We look forward to a reading by our author Widad Nabi with her volume of poetry "Shortly before thirty,...kiss me"! The joint reading with Mohammad Al-Matroud in Arabic and German is part of the supporting program for the Exhibition "My Aleppo - 5000 years of urban culture" in Cologne. The event will be moderated by the German-Syrian author and translator Suleman Taufiq.
Widad Nabi's texts tell of insatiable longing, of loss, of pleasure and pain, of the search for human closeness. They usually sing about a moment of nostalgia, tenderness and love. Her poems, which are poetically closely intertwined with the events of recent years in Syria, correspond to the lives of many people who are fleeing. The sense of alienation in her poetry is a metaphor for modern man's uprooting and homelessness. Exile has become the fate of many Syrians, but often also their salvation. "Exile saved me from annihilation," she once said.
