When Dogan Akhanli tells the story, the times become entwined

At the age of seventeen, Dogan Akhanli was arrested for the first time in Turkey for buying a left-wing magazine. That was the beginning of a lifelong state persecution. Most recently, he - now a German citizen - was deprived of his freedom in Granada in 2017. He wrote the impressive literary-documentary book “Arrest in Granada“.
In 2019, Akhanlı, a great storyteller,
honored in Weimar with the Goethe Medal for his literary work, in which he - among other things - in “Madonna's last dream“ – advocates a culture of remembrance and international understanding with great clarity.
An event organized by the Literarisches Quartier in cooperation with Sujet Verlag and the association “West-Östlicher Diwan: intercultural exchange e.V.
